In this podcast I deliver an overview of the gut microbiome. What is the microbiome? I discuss the microbial diversity that exists and factors contributing to individual variations. I cover the enormous effect these microbes have on our physiology not only generating critical nutrients but having a profound effect on our hormones, our immune system, our psychological well-being and our metabolic health. I conclude by discussing why urbanisation has wrecked our microbiome, exactly what factors are causing this disruption and how to redress the balance.
